Here, Victoria Kreuzer on her way to the new record. \u00a9Damiano Benedetto Photo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The final day of the <strong>Monte Rosa SkyMarathon<\/strong> celebrated two verticals, the long and the short, with athletes climbing upwards and records tumbling in<strong> Alagna, Piedmont, Italy,<\/strong> on<strong> June 14-15, 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>AMA VK2<\/strong>, a double Vertical Kilometer\u00ae &#8211; \u201cjust\u201d <strong>nine kilometres long<\/strong>, with <strong>2,086m<\/strong> <strong>vertical climb<\/strong> to an altitude of <strong>3,260m<\/strong> is a beacon for some of the world\u2019s top runners that like it short and steep. The <strong>sixth<\/strong> <strong>edition<\/strong> of the race saw <strong>records smashed <\/strong>with <strong>Italy\u2019s Daniel Thedy<\/strong> and <strong>Victoria Kreuzer <\/strong>from<strong> Switzerland<\/strong> close in <strong>1h30\u201932\u201d <\/strong>and <strong>1h57\u201900\u201d <\/strong>respectively.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5719\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5719\" style=\"width: 1290px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5719 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/3pmstaging.it\/monterosa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/DY9_6668_BD_IPTC-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1290\" height=\"860\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5719\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">After two second places, Italy&#8217;s Daniel Thedy clinches the AMA VK2 record. \u00a9Damiano Benedetto Photo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Thedy, from the neighbouring Aosta valley, placed second in the <strong>2022 <\/strong>and <strong>2024<\/strong> <strong>AMA VK2<\/strong>. Commenting on the new record, Thedy stated, \u201c<em>I was always stuck with second place in this race, so I\u2019m incredibly pleased with this victory. It\u2019s an honour for me to have broken the record, as it belonged to a great athlete like Damiano Lenzi. The conditions weren\u2019t ideal, and I even broke a micro-crampon with my legs sinking in the soft snow, but as I climbed higher, the conditions improved, and everything went really well in the end!<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Second <\/strong>and<strong> third men<\/strong> were both from <strong>Switzerland<\/strong>, <strong>Fiorillo Camesi<\/strong> closing in <strong>1h38\u201945\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>M<\/strong><strong>artin Anthamatten<\/strong> in <strong>1h40\u201959\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Victoria Kreuzer<\/strong>, also from <strong>Switzerland<\/strong> <strong>crushed the women\u2019s record<\/strong>, closing <strong>eighth overall<\/strong> in the race. For this well-known couple, both in life and sport, from Zermatt, the <strong>2026 AMA VK2<\/strong> is already on their bucket list.<br \/>\nThe previous women\u2019s record of <strong>1h58\u201957\u201d<\/strong> <strong>set in 2021<\/strong> belonged to <strong>American Hillary Gerardi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5713\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5713\" style=\"width: 1290px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5713 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/3pmstaging.it\/monterosa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/DY6_8928_BD_IPTC-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1290\" height=\"860\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5713\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">In life and in sport, Swiss couple Victoria Kreuzer and Martin Anthamatten taste the AMA VK2 together. \u00a9Damiano Benedetto Photo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Second <\/strong>and <strong>third women<\/strong>, both from <strong>Italy<\/strong>, were <strong>Corinna Ghirardi <\/strong>in <strong>1h59\u201959\u201d <\/strong>and <strong>Martina Pozzi <\/strong>in <strong>2h04\u201933\u201d<\/strong> \u2013 all closing in the top 12.<br \/>\nGhirardi commented, <em>\u201cI\u2019m absolutely thrilled! I shaved nearly two minutes off my time and it feels incredible, especially as the years go by, but I\u2019m still competitive. I love this race, and this second place is hugely satisfying, especially as it\u2019s behind a great athlete like Victoria, who was unbeatable today.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s second race, the <strong>Monte Rosa Vertical<\/strong>, introduced in 2023, is a classic Vertical Kilometer\u00ae &#8211; <strong>5.32 km long <\/strong>with <strong>1,150m vertical climb<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The men\u2019s race saw and incredible performance from<strong> Italy\u2019s<\/strong> <strong>Marcello Ugazio<\/strong> who set a <strong>new record<\/strong> after winning the new <strong>SkySummit<\/strong> race to the top of Monte Rosa yesterday with his partner <strong>Alex Rigo<\/strong>. The <strong>new record <\/strong>stands at <strong>44\u201955\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5717\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5717\" style=\"width: 1290px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5717 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/3pmstaging.it\/monterosa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/DY9_5558_BD_IPTC-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1290\" height=\"860\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5717\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Italian Marcello Ugazio had energy to spend. After yesterday&#8217;s win in the SkySummit, today he smashed the AMA VK2 record. \u00a9Damiano Benedetto Photo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Ugazio, a vertical specialist and winner of the <strong>2023 AMA VK2<\/strong> and<strong> 2022<\/strong> <strong>World Championships silver medallist<\/strong>, found the energy to sweep the board and put another victory under his belt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>This morning when I woke up, I felt like I\u2019d like to sleep more after yesterday\u2019s race, but I got myself together and once on the course felt incredibly strong. When it got really steep, I wish I\u2019d brought my poles but in the end it worked out ok!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Second <\/strong>and <strong>third men<\/strong> were <strong>Italians<\/strong> <strong>Peter Bettoli<\/strong> and <strong>Alessandro Civitiello<\/strong>. <strong>Frenchman Louis Dumas<\/strong>, one of the favourites, was not on form and closed a disappointed fifth but with a strong desire to return next year for one of the three vertical races Monte Rosa now has to offer.<\/p>\n<p>The women\u2019s podium was also <strong>all-Italian<\/strong> with <strong>Elisa Arvat<\/strong> who closed <strong>1h02\u201940\u201d<\/strong>. Arvat, from the Aosta valley, commented, \u201c<em>It was a beautiful course, very runnable in the lower part and very steep towards the finish. It\u2019s my first time here. Next time I\u2019d like to try one of the other verticals!\u201d<br \/>\n<\/em>Local athlete <strong>Erika Forni<\/strong> was <strong>second<\/strong> and <strong>Clara Defilippi<\/strong>, <strong>third<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5711\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5711\" style=\"width: 1290px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5711 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/3pmstaging.it\/monterosa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/AMA-2025_VK2_PH-STEFANO-JEANTET-84-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1290\" height=\"860\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5711\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">700 athletes from 30 countries celebrated the Monte Rosa SkyMarathon with four races &#8211; a taste for everyone. \u00a9Stefano Jeantet<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>An intense weekend at the <strong>seventh edition<\/strong> of the <strong>Monte Rosa SkyMarathon<\/strong> unfolded with, for the first time, <strong>four events<\/strong> over two days. <strong>Athletes<\/strong> from a <strong>record 30 countries across five continents<\/strong> participated, <strong>new records<\/strong> were set, and <strong>new stars<\/strong> were born. More than <strong>1,300 spectators<\/strong> followed the races on the first day, cheering on the runners at high altitude.
