With four spectacular races taking place in one single day, all above 3,000m altitude, nature intervened with strong winds on the upper slopes of Monte Rosa.\u00a0 The ascent to the summit of Europe\u2019s highest race at 4,554m on June 13, 2026, in Alagna Valsesia, Piedmont, Italy<\/strong> was shortened for safety reasons at Colle del Lys at 4,200m \u2013 the same outcome as the first race held here in 1992.<\/p>\n

The SkyMarathon and SkySummit both require athletes to rope up and compete in pairs for safety. Despite the reduced course, the challenge remained demanding, and saw defending champions, Italian William Boffelli <\/strong>and Switzerland\u2019s Roberto Delorenzi<\/strong>, take the SkyMarathon<\/strong> win \u2013 Boffelli for the seventh time.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u00a0was\u00a0an\u00a0amazing\u00a0day,\u201d <\/em>said Boffelli. \u201cOf course we\u2019re sorry not to have reached the summit, but cutting the race was the right decision, not just for the athletes, but also for the organisers who would have had to undergo extreme conditions and wait for the last athletes. We will have another chance to go to the summit \u2013 when the weather will allow it!\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n

French-American athlete Hillary Gerardi<\/strong>, 2018 winner and runner-up in 2024,\u00a0 paired successfully with Sweden\u2019s Ida Nilsson<\/strong>\u00a0just days after confirming their partnership. More success from Sweden<\/strong> where twins, Sanna and Lina El Kott<\/strong>, after two wins, took second place today. \u201cToday was incredible. We were bummed not to reach the Capanna Margherita, but with these conditions it would have been a huge risk. I\u2019m just happy to be back to my favourite race and to have the opportunity to enjoy myself at the fullest.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n

The mixed category couple win was all Polish <\/strong>with J<\/strong>ustyna\u00a0Kowalczyk-Tekieli<\/strong>\u00a0and Jan\u00a0Elantkowski<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The ascent-only SkySummit <\/strong>race saw Switzerland\u2019s <\/strong>Fiorillo Camesi <\/strong>and Italian Marcello Ugazio<\/strong>\u00a0come out on top while Italians Giulia Compagnoni <\/strong>and Corinna Ghirardi <\/strong>took the win for the women. Swiss duo Victoria Kreuzer and Martin Anthamatten<\/strong>\u00a0topped the mixed category. \u201cWe had a clear plan in mind: find the fastest of the group, follow them closely then go full gas on the last stretches to pass them,\u201d <\/em>commented Ugazio. \u201cWe noticed that nobody was keeping up with us, so we started pushing. I had to slow Fiorillo down in first half and pull him a little in the second part, but in end we did a very good race and the best climbing time<\/em>!\u201d<\/p>\n

The new Monte Rosa SkyRace\u00ae<\/strong> introduced this year, featured a turnaround point at a slightly lower altitude at the Gnifetti Hut, 3,647m<\/strong>, which remained less affected by the high winds. Designed for solo runners, first man was Italian <\/strong>Daniel Antonioli<\/strong>\u00a0and last-minute newcomer Carys\u00a0Mai Hughes<\/strong> from Wales<\/strong> was a surprise win. Frenchman Louis Dumas<\/strong>, who placed third, had this to say; \u201cThis\u00a0SkyRace\u00a0is\u00a0amazing:\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0exactly\u00a0what\u00a0I like:\u00a0steep,\u00a0brutal\u00a0and with jaw dropping scenery. I\u00a0was\u00a0battling\u00a0for\u00a0victory,\u00a0but\u00a0on the way down, my legs were jelly\u00a0when\u00a0I\u00a0reached\u00a0Bocchetta delle\u00a0Pisse\u00a0and I\u00a0had\u00a0to\u00a0settle\u00a0for\u00a0third. But I\u2019ll definitely\u00a0be back\u00a0hoping\u00a0for more!<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n

The final race of the day, a double Vertical Kilometer\u00ae, AMA VK2<\/strong>, was won by Italian Marco Magistro\u00a0<\/strong>and Frenchwoman Sabine\u00a0Ehrstrom<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Despite the challenging weather conditions, close on 2,000 spectators<\/strong> from both Alagna and Gressoney lined the course to cheer on the athletes, thanks to the highest stop of the cable car at 3,260m. Overall, 664 runners from a record 34 countries<\/strong> took part in the day\u2019s events.<\/p>\n

Celebrating the eighth edition<\/strong> of the events since the relaunch of the original Monte Rosa skyrunning race, the event continues to grow in stature and international appeal, with success always pointing skywards.<\/p>\n
